Dele Momodu Accuses PDP Of Bowing To Pressure In 2027 Zoning Decision
Dele Momodu Slams PDP Over 2027 Zoning, Says Party Now Working for Tinubu
Renowned publisher and former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Dele Momodu, has lambasted the party over its decision to zone the 2027 presidential ticket to the South, claiming it has effectively surrendered to blackmail and is now operating in favour of President Bola Tinubu.
According to iReporter Online, Momodu described the zoning move as “the most reckless decision in the history of our nascent democracy,” accusing influential elements within the party of doing the bidding of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a lengthy post on his verified Instagram page, Momodu suggested that the PDP is being manipulated by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, whose actions allegedly align more with the interests of Tinubu than those of the opposition.
“The PDP has shot itself in the leg,” Momodu declared. “It finally succumbed to cheap and puerile blackmail from within, orchestrated by those openly working for the ruling party.”
He went further to claim that President Tinubu will emerge in 2027 as a “joint candidate of both APC and PDP”, given the extent of Wike’s control over PDP structures.
“Let’s be honest,” he added. “No Jupiter will stop Wike from using PDP’s platform for Tinubu. That’s already a done deal.”
According to iReporter Online, Momodu also questioned the moral credibility of the party’s new zoning logic, pointing out that Wike was among those who dismissed zoning principles in 2022 and even lobbied to be vice president to a northern candidate at the time.
He criticised PDP governors for allegedly failing to resist Wike’s growing dominance, referencing the political crisis in Rivers State as an example of their weakness. “They couldn’t even rescue SIM Fubara when his boat of governance capsized,” he noted.
Momodu also rubbished speculations that the PDP is considering names like former President Goodluck Jonathan, Labour Party’s Peter Obi, or Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde for the presidency, calling such reports “blatant lies from the pit of hell.”
According to iReporter Online, he argued that the zoning decision is nothing more than a smokescreen to legitimise Tinubu’s re-election and called on the PDP to stop “deceiving Nigerians.”
He concluded by raising historical inconsistencies in the party’s logic, recalling that no such zoning debate occurred when President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua passed away, allowing Jonathan to complete the term and contest again. He also questioned the silence of the same southern voices during the 2023 Muslim-Muslim ticket controversy.
“Truth must not be selective,” Momodu concluded, describing the PDP’s actions as a betrayal of both its founding principles and the Nigerian electorate.
