Over 400 Senior Police Officers Take Crucial Promotion Test In Abuja

The Police Service Commission (PSC) on Thursday conducted promotion examinations for over 400 senior police officers from across Nigeria. A total of 56 Chief Superintendents of Police were recommended for promotion to the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police, while 451 Superintendents were put forward for consideration for advancement to Chief Superintendent of Police.

According to Ikechukwu Ani, Head of Press and Public Relations at the PSC, the candidates underwent a written examination overseen by Justice Paul Adamu Galumje, representing the Judiciary, and DIG Bar. Taiwo Lekanu, representing the Police and Chairman of the Standing Committee on Police Affairs.

Ani emphasized that promotion examinations will henceforth be an essential requirement for career advancement in the Nigeria Police Force, ensuring officers are mentally prepared for the demands of 21st-century policing and that merit, competence, and character guide promotions. He added that Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) are scheduled to appear for their own promotion examination on Friday, September 19, 2025.

The examination process included promotion interviews for the senior officers, marking an important step in the consideration for higher ranks. PSC Chairman, DIG Hashimu Argungu (rtd), reiterated the Commission’s commitment to building a dynamic, efficient, and effective Police Force capable of protecting lives, safeguarding property, and combating crime. He called on Nigerians to support the Nigeria Police Force, encouraging officers to rededicate themselves to serving the nation.
