Decades Of Solitude: Mama Rainbow Shares Emotional Story Behind Her Vow Never To Remarry
Veteran Nollywood actress Idowu Phillips, widely known as Mama Rainbow, has shared the emotional reason she decided never to remarry following the death of her husband. According to Ireporter Online, the 83-year-old screen legend made the revelation during a conversation with fellow actress Bimpe Akintunde.
Mama Rainbow recounted how a suitor, who once expressed interest in marrying her after her husband’s demise, abruptly withdrew when he discovered the size of her family. She explained that the man had visited her home and met 11 children eating with her. Upon learning they were all her biological children, he excused himself and never returned.
The experience, she revealed, left a lasting impact on her, leading to her vow never to remarry—a decision she has upheld for decades. “A man wanted to marry me when my husband died, but he ran away when he saw 11 kids with me. He came to my house and saw the children eating with me. When I told him they were my children, he left and never came back. Since then, I decided never to get married again, and I have remained single,” she said.
Mama Rainbow, who lost her husband in 1984, single-handedly raised her children while building a successful acting career that began in the 1960s. Over the years, she has featured in numerous Yoruba and English films, earning widespread admiration for her resilience, faith, and enduring legacy in Nollywood.
