Police, FBI And US Secret Service Nab Internet Fraud Suspects In Lagos And Edo
According to Ireporter Online, the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre (NPF–NCCC), in partnership with the United States’ Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the US Secret Service, has arrested three internet fraudsters in Edo and Lagos States.
The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, stated that the suspects targeted email systems of major corporate organizations in Nigeria through phishing links and malicious software. The arrests followed actionable intelligence provided by Microsoft Corporation and the FBI, which uncovered the use of a sophisticated phishing toolkit known as RaccoonO365.
CSP Hundeyin explained that the toolkit was designed to create fraudulent Microsoft login portals to harvest user credentials and gain unauthorized access to corporate, financial, and educational email platforms. Investigations revealed multiple incidents of compromised Microsoft 365 accounts between January and September 2025, resulting in business email compromise, data breaches, and financial losses.
“Acting on precise intelligence, NPF–NCCC operatives carried out coordinated operations in Lagos and Edo States, leading to the arrest of three suspects. Searches of their residences yielded laptops, mobile devices, and other digital equipment linked to the fraudulent scheme,” CSP Hundeyin said.
Further investigations identified Okitipi Samuel, also known as “RaccoonO365” and “Moses Felix,” as the principal suspect and developer of the phishing infrastructure. He reportedly operated a Telegram channel to sell phishing links for cryptocurrency and hosted fraudulent login portals on Cloudflare using stolen or fraudulently obtained email credentials.
Investigations confirmed that the other two suspects had no involvement in the creation or operation of the phishing scheme. CSP Hundeyin emphasized that the Nigeria Police Force remains committed to safeguarding the country’s digital space through advanced technology, strengthened international partnerships, and rigorous investigative and prosecutorial measures against cybercrime.
