President Tinubu Reassembles NERC Board, Releases Full List Of Appointees

The development was disclosed on Thursday in an official statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy. The reconstituted board brings together returning and newly appointed commissioners to steer the affairs of the electricity regulator in line with ongoing reforms in the power sector.

Dr Mulisiu Olalekan Oseni has been appointed as Chairman of the Commission. He began his service at NERC as a Commissioner in January 2017 and later rose to the position of Vice Chairman. His appointment as Chairman took effect from December 1, 2025, and will run until the completion of his ten-year tenure, in accordance with the provisions of the Electricity Act, 2023.

Dr Yusuf Ali was named Vice Chairman of the Commission. He was first appointed as a Commissioner in February 2022, with his new designation also taking effect from December 1, 2025. His tenure as Vice Chairman will last until the completion of his first term.

Other members of the reconstituted board include Mr Nathan Rogers Shatti, who is serving a second term as Commissioner after his initial appointment in January 2017, and Mr Dafe Akpeneye, also reappointed for a second term, having first joined the Commission in January 2017.

Aisha Mahmud Kanti Bello continues her service as a Commissioner for a second term, following her initial appointment in December 2020. Dr Chidi Ike remains on the board as a Commissioner, serving his first term after his appointment in February 2022.

Also appointed is Dr Fouad Animashaun, who will serve his first term as Commissioner effective December 2025. He is an energy economist with extensive experience in Nigeria’s power sector and most recently served as Executive Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission.

President Tinubu has charged the reconstituted NERC board to deepen and consolidate the ongoing transformation of Nigeria’s electricity sector, stressing the need for strict adherence to both the letter and spirit of the Electricity Act, 2023, as they carry out their responsibilities.
