According to Ireporter Online, Nigerian international Victor Boniface is weighing a critical decision regarding his career after medical experts in Germany recommended surgery as the most effective solution to his persistent knee injury.

The 25-year-old striker, currently on loan at Werder Bremen from Bayer Leverkusen, was initially advised to undergo surgery in August but chose to delay the procedure. Since then, the injury has continued to trouble him, raising renewed concern among club officials and medical staff.

Undergoing surgery now would likely sideline Boniface for the remainder of the season, potentially ending his loan spell at Werder Bremen prematurely. He joined the Bundesliga side late in the summer transfer window and has struggled to find form, making only two starts in 11 appearances without scoring.

Despite the short-term setback, surgery is seen as a possible long-term solution to a recurring issue that has affected Boniface throughout his career. The striker has previously battled two anterior cruciate ligament injuries, making the decision particularly delicate.

Both Bayer Leverkusen and Werder Bremen are reportedly working together to determine the best path forward. Sporting director Simon Rolfes of Leverkusen and Clemens Fritz, Werder Bremen’s head of professional football, are said to be in discussions to coordinate the player’s next steps.

Ultimately, the decision rests with Boniface, who must choose between undergoing surgery or attempting to manage the injury and complete the season. Bremen has already consulted with Leverkusen about the possibility of cutting the loan short, with a final decision expected once the player announces his choice.
