The Nigeria Police Force in Ondo State has apprehended six individuals accused of masquerading as clerics to defraud unsuspecting members of the public through staged miracles and deceptive religious practices.

According to Ireporter Online, the suspects — Fadahunsi, Kolade, Tijani, Iyanuoluwa, Arijesulola and Ademola — were arrested in Idanre, the headquarters of Idanre Local Government Area, where they allegedly conducted their activities.

The command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Abayomi Jimoh, disclosed that the arrests were carried out by tactical teams of the command in collaboration with Community Safety Officers following a coordinated, intelligence-led operation. He explained that the group allegedly preyed on the faith, emotions and vulnerabilities of their victims.

Jimoh further revealed that the suspects reportedly swindled members of the public under false pretences by promising divine intervention for financial hardship, health concerns and other personal challenges. Investigations indicate that the group operated in an organised manner, assigning specific roles to members to project a structured and convincing appearance of legitimacy.

The police spokesman stated that investigations are ongoing to establish the full scope of the alleged fraud, determine the number of victims involved, assess the financial magnitude of the scheme, and track down other possible collaborators who may still be at large.

The command reiterated its commitment to eliminating criminal elements within the state and urged residents to remain vigilant against fraudulent schemes disguised as religious activities.
