Breaking: Ekiti PDP Elects Omolase As New Chairman

According to Ireporter Online, Lanre Omolase, an ally of former Ekiti State governor Ayodele Fayose, has been elected chairman of the Ekiti State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) following the party’s state congress on Saturday in Ado-Ekiti.

The congress, attended by officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies, also saw Tunde Ogunleye, a former state commissioner, emerge as the party’s secretary. Other members of the State Working Committee were similarly elected.

Babatunde Akande was chosen as Deputy Chairman, Femi Philips as Publicity Secretary, Lawrence Odunayo as Organising Secretary, and Olugbenga Agbede as Legal Adviser. Key positions were filled by Ayodele Oluwatoyin Bosede as Women Leader, Banji Femi as Youth Leader, and Gani Bakare as Financial Secretary. Additionally, Anike Folasade was elected Treasurer, Ajayi Joseph as Auditor, while Sunday Olowolafe, Adeniyi Adefemi, and Segun Olatunji assumed senatorial chairmanships for Ekiti South, Central, and North, respectively.

Speaking at the congress, PDP National Caretaker Working Committee member and the party’s 2022 governorship candidate in Ekiti, Bisi Kolawole, acknowledged past internal challenges but assured members that efforts were underway to rebuild and reposition the party. Kolawole emphasized ongoing consultations among party leaders and stakeholders nationwide to restore unity, strengthen internal democracy, and rebuild confidence among members. He urged the newly elected executives to remain loyal and committed to the PDP’s ideals, stressing that discipline and unity are key to reclaiming the party’s status as a major political force.

In his acceptance speech, Omolase called on members to renew their commitment to the PDP and pledged to lead with integrity, fairness, and the “fear of God.” He vowed to work closely with all stakeholders to rebuild the party’s structure and restore its political influence in Ekiti State.
