One Dead, Several Injured As Gas Tanker Explodes In Lagos

One person has been confirmed dead while several others sustained injuries following a gas tanker explosion in Lagos.

According to reports by Ireporter Online, the incident occurred at Ologuro Bus Stop opposite Total Filling Station in the Sangotedo area of the state. The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency disclosed that its emergency response team arrived promptly at the scene to assess the situation.

Officials revealed that a tipper truck with no identified registration number crashed into a gas tanker from behind, triggering a fire outbreak. Preliminary findings indicated that the accident was caused by excessive speeding and reckless driving on the part of the truck driver.

The agency confirmed that the driver of the tipper truck lost his life due to the impact, while two adult females sustained minor injuries and were immediately treated by personnel of the Lagos State Ambulance Service.

Further reports noted that the fire spread to four nearby roadside shops, causing significant damage to property. Authorities also stated that the tanker’s contents remained trapped within the vehicle as recovery operations continued.

Emergency responders, including the agency’s Shark Team in collaboration with the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service and medical teams, successfully contained the fire and prevented it from spreading to nearby buildings. Efforts to fully secure the scene and complete recovery operations were still ongoing at the time of filing this report.
