La Liga Condemns Threats After Sevilla Airport Clash
According to Ireporter Online, Spanish La Liga has strongly condemned threats and intimidation aimed at Sevilla FC players and staff following the club’s latest league defeat. Sevilla suffered a third consecutive Spanish La Liga loss on Sunday, April 5, falling 1-0 to Real Oviedo, who remain at the bottom of the table with just 24 points from 30 matches.
Tensions escalated when a group of supporters confronted Sevilla’s players and coaching team at the airport upon their return, hurling insults. Other masked individuals were reported to have gathered at the club’s training ground.
La Liga described the behaviour as an “unacceptable crossing of the line of legitimate criticism and sporting expression” and confirmed that authorities will be notified. The governing body also pledged to take further action should similar incidents occur. Earlier this season, fans had attempted to breach the training ground to confront players.
“Anyone who crosses the line from criticism into threats, intimidation, or harassment stops acting as a fan and starts acting as a violent individual,” La Liga stated. “And against violent individuals, La Liga acts and will act.”
Sevilla, now winless in five Spanish La Liga matches, sit 17th in the standings, just two points above the relegation zone, with eight games remaining this season.
