Matthew Kukah Secures New Appointment From Soludo

The Governor of Anambra State, Chukwuma Soludo, has approved the appointment of Matthew Kukah as the Chancellor of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University.

The announcement was made on Wednesday through an official statement issued by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Christian Aburime. According to Ireporter Online, the appointment is seen as a strategic move aimed at strengthening the institution’s global outlook and reinforcing its commitment to academic excellence and ethical leadership.

The statement noted that Kukah’s extensive international connections are expected to facilitate partnerships with global institutions, while also promoting values-driven leadership within the university community. It further emphasized that the decision reflects the administration’s broader vision of producing graduates who are intellectually sound and socially responsible.

Describing Kukah as a distinguished scholar and cleric, the statement highlighted his longstanding contributions to intellectual discourse and social justice in Nigeria. His academic journey includes studies at University of Ibadan, Pontifical Urban University, University of Bradford, and SOAS University of London, where he earned a doctorate. He also undertook academic engagements at University of Oxford and Harvard University.

In addition to his academic achievements, Kukah is recognized as a prolific writer and the founder of The Kukah Centre, an institution dedicated to promoting interfaith dialogue, research-driven advocacy, and policy reform. The government expressed confidence that his leadership will further elevate the university’s reputation both locally and internationally.
