The controversy emerged in January when Blessing CEO publicly disclosed that she had been diagnosed with stage four breast cancer and sought financial assistance from the public. She had supported her claim with what was presented as a medical report. However, Xinus Medical Diagnostics later challenged the authenticity of the document, alleging it had been altered. The medical facility further stated that the original report belonged to a patient identified as Deborah Mbara and was issued in May 2025.

Mbara, a makeup artist and cancer survivor, subsequently accused the influencer of using her medical records without consent. The allegation triggered widespread public outrage and raised serious questions about the legitimacy of the fundraising appeal.

Following the development, Mbara’s family reportedly petitioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), accusing Blessing CEO of cyberbullying, document forgery, and orchestrating a fraudulent fundraising scheme. The petition further claimed that over ₦300 million was allegedly raised from the public under false pretences.
