Portable Blasts Organizers, Claims Carter Efe Fight Was Unfair And Manipulated
According to Ireporter Online, Nigerian singer Habeeb Badmus, popularly known as Portable, has alleged that his defeat to social media personality Carter Efe at the Chaos in the Ring 4 celebrity boxing event in Lagos was manipulated. He claimed that the fight was prematurely stopped and influenced by external interests linked to large sums allegedly wagered on his victory.
Portable lost the bout by unanimous decision, with all three judges scoring it 27-30 in favour of Carter Efe after three rounds, a result that ended his unbeaten run in celebrity boxing following earlier wins over Charles Okocha and Speed Darlington.
Reacting after the fight, the singer insisted he was unfairly treated, alleging that organisers could not meet financial obligations tied to bets placed on him. He maintained that the decision to stop the contest was unjustified, arguing that he should have been allowed to continue despite showing signs of fatigue.
Portable further compared the bout to his previous fight with actor Charles Okocha, stating that his condition was not unusual for such contests and that intervention could have allowed him to continue.
He also accused the event organisers of owing him revenue from streaming rights, demanding payment of approximately ₦200 million, warning that failure to comply could lead to further actions.
Meanwhile, concerns have been raised over his health following the fight, as a Canada-based Nigerian doctor, Dr Arinze Onwumelu, advised that Portable undergo medical tests, including an MRI scan, to rule out possible internal injuries sustained during the bout.
Despite the controversy surrounding the defeat, Portable said the birth of his son on the same night overshadowed the outcome of the fight, adding that personal milestones mattered more to him than winning a championship belt.
