SDP Reshapes North-West Leadership, Names New Zonal Officials
According to Ireporter Online, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has concluded its North-West Zonal Congress with the election of new officials, as Hon. Salihu Suleiman from Kaduna State emerged as the National Vice Chairman of the party in the zone.
The congress, held on Monday, May 4, 2026, at the party’s state secretariat in Kaduna, brought together delegates from across the North-West, where all contested positions were returned unopposed. The outcome of the exercise was confirmed in a statement jointly signed by the Chairman and Secretary of the Electoral Committee, Adamu Idris and Titus Madaki.
The committee noted that the congress was conducted peacefully and in strict adherence to the party’s internal democratic guidelines, describing the process as transparent and orderly.
Hon. Suleiman’s emergence is expected to reinforce the party’s organisational strength across the seven states in the North-West, as the SDP moves to deepen its grassroots structures and broaden its political influence ahead of future elections.
Speaking after the election, Electoral Committee Chairman, Adamu Idris, urged the newly elected executives to embrace inclusive leadership and ensure collective decision-making. He emphasized the importance of unity within the party, warning that internal cohesion remains critical to the SDP’s competitiveness in subsequent electoral contests.
He further encouraged the leadership to prioritize democratic consolidation and strengthen party structures capable of attracting wider membership and improving electoral performance.
In his acceptance remarks on behalf of the new executives, Suleiman expressed appreciation to party delegates for the confidence placed in them, pledging to reposition the SDP as a stronger opposition force in the North-West. He stated that the new leadership would focus on expanding the party’s reach through intensified mobilisation, consultations, and grassroots engagement across the zone.
Other officials elected at the congress include Rilwanu Jamo from Katsina State as Zonal Secretary, Hassan Gidan Laka from Sokoto State as Zonal Treasurer, Comrade Musa Lawan from Katsina State as Zonal Publicity Secretary, and Comrade Inuwa Idris from Kaduna State as Zonal Financial Secretary.
