According to Ireporter Online, former President Goodluck Jonathan has paid a heartfelt tribute to the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, describing him as a “Gentleman President” and a man of rare integrity whose leadership left a lasting imprint on Nigeria’s democratic journey.

Jonathan made the remarks in a Facebook post on Tuesday to commemorate the 16th anniversary of Yar’Adua’s passing, reflecting on their close working relationship during his time as Vice President under the late leader. He noted that Yar’Adua was more than a boss to him, but a brother and trusted partner in national service.

He described the late president as a humble and principled leader whose administration was guided by a shared commitment to inclusiveness, justice, and respect for the rule of law. Jonathan recalled that their government was built on a common vision of fostering unity and strengthening democratic institutions, stressing Yar’Adua’s firm belief that true leadership must prioritise national interest over personal ambition.

The former president further highlighted Yar’Adua’s calm but firm approach to governance, saying he consistently demonstrated courage in promoting peace and addressing national challenges with sincerity and accountability. According to him, Yar’Adua’s legacy in peace-building remains a reference point for leadership in Nigeria.
