Make Way For New Kings!” — Portable Fires Shots At Olamide, Davido, Wizkid & Burna Boy
Controversial street-hop artist Portable has ignited fresh debate over generational transition in Nigeria’s music industry, calling on established stars to create opportunities for emerging talents. According to Ireporter Online, the singer made the remarks during a livestream conversation with Whitemoney, where he spoke in pidgin about the need for older acts to step aside for the next wave of artists.
In his comments, Portable emphasized that the growth of the industry has historically depended on earlier stars making room for successors. He referenced veterans such as D’banj, Don Jazzy, Flavour and KCee, noting that their era paved the way for the rise of globally recognised acts like Wizkid, Davido, Olamide and Burna Boy.
He further cited Timaya as an example of an artist who created space for others, urging current industry leaders to follow a similar path. The singer warned that resistance to change could result in established figures being displaced by the next generation, stressing that progress in the music scene requires a continuous cycle of renewal.
Portable’s remarks have since sparked conversations across social media, with many weighing in on whether leading artists should step aside or continue to compete alongside emerging talents in the ever-evolving Nigerian music landscape.
