According to Ireporter Online, Victoria Innocent, the wife of popular gospel singer Kaestrings, has responded to criticism directed at married women who adopt their husbands’ surnames, insisting that the practice does not diminish a woman’s identity or individuality.

Victoria recounted a recent phone conversation in which a woman challenged her for introducing herself as “Mrs Kaestrings” instead of using only her first name, Victoria. The caller reportedly argued that consistently identifying with a husband’s name could lead to a loss of personal identity.

Reacting to the comment, Victoria dismissed the suggestion, questioning the perspective held by some critics who she described as being uncomfortable with women publicly honoring their husbands. She maintained that her decision to bear her husband’s name is a matter of choice and respect, and does not in any way reduce her value as a woman.

She further expressed frustration over what she perceived as pressure from certain feminist viewpoints, asking why the act of taking a husband’s name is often interpreted negatively.

In her words, she questioned how adopting a marital name could make a woman “less of a woman,” insisting that she remains confident in her identity as Mrs Kaestrings and sees no contradiction in it.

Her comments have since sparked conversations across social media regarding marriage, identity, and naming conventions among married women.
