Kwara Police Nab Two Suspected Kidnappers, Recover Rifles In Major Bust

According to security reports, the suspects were apprehended on May 5 at approximately 7:30 p.m. after operatives of the Intelligence Response Team tracked them to locations within the Ilorin metropolis during an intelligence-led operation.

Investigators said preliminary findings indicate that the suspects attempted to evade detection by handing over their weapons to a female accomplice, who was allegedly tasked with transporting the arms to a designated location for planned criminal activities.

During interrogation, the suspects reportedly led officers to a hideout where three AK-47 rifles were recovered. Police also seized five AK-47 magazines and 143 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition.

Further investigations revealed that the arrested suspects and other members of the syndicate, some of whom remain at large, were allegedly coordinating a large-scale attack. The group was said to be moving in small units toward a common meeting point before the operation was disrupted by timely intelligence.

Police authorities stated that the suspects admitted to belonging to a kidnapping network operating within and around Kwara State. They are currently in custody and are assisting investigators with information aimed at tracking down other members of the criminal group and preventing additional attacks.

The police added that the suspects will be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of ongoing investigations.
