Wike Slams Peter Obi: “He’s A ‘Food Is Ready’ Politician
According to Ireporter Online, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has criticised the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, describing him as a “food is ready” politician.
Wike stated that Obi lacks the required capacity to effectively confront the complex challenges associated with leadership, stressing that governing a country like Nigeria demands resilience and the ability to make difficult decisions under pressure.
The former Rivers State governor made the remarks on Monday during his monthly media parley in Abuja, where he addressed a range of political issues.
He argued that leadership is not defined by criticism or the pursuit of an easy route to power, but by the ability to withstand pressure and take responsibility during difficult times. Wike maintained that Nigeria’s present challenges require leaders who are prepared to face realities head-on.
In his words, “Peter Obi is like food is ready, ‘mama put’. I don’t want struggling in this country. There are challenges. You must have the capacity to face those challenges.”
Wike further emphasized that true leadership is tested in moments of crisis, recalling his experience within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), where he said he resisted pressure to defect despite internal party tensions and political opposition.
He noted that despite financial and political inducements, he remained committed to the party, insisting that loyalty and conviction defined his stance during the crisis.
“You saw in PDP, all the governors, I said I will not leave this party. They had money, yes, but it’s not money. I said I was not going to leave, rather you will leave. Have I left? Have you not left?” he stated.
The FCT Minister also reflected on the criticism he faced upon assuming office, saying he endured widespread public attacks but remained focused on his duties and responsibilities.
He concluded that leadership is defined by endurance and responsibility, not criticism, adding that his experience in office has further reinforced his understanding of what true leadership entails.
