According to Ireporter Online, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has dismissed speculations suggesting that former President Goodluck Jonathan may be preparing to contest the 2027 presidential election.

Wike made the clarification on Monday during his monthly media parley in Abuja, where he argued that no politician can be considered part of an electoral race unless they have openly signaled interest. He stressed that public narratives suggesting that individuals are being pressured or persuaded to run for office are often misleading.

The Minister maintained that genuine aspirants typically indicate their ambition either directly or indirectly before any form of political mobilisation begins in their favour. According to him, it is unrealistic to assume that people are encouraged into contests without prior indication of interest.

He further questioned the speculation surrounding Jonathan, noting that the former president has not declared any intention to return to the ballot. Wike added that political ambition is usually communicated clearly and not based on assumptions or “body language.”
