Tinubu Declares Zero Tolerance For Terrorists, Bandits, Promises Relief For Nigerians

According to a statement credited to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, who represented the President at the National Inter-Denominational Church Service held at the National Christian Centre, Abuja, as part of activities marking the 2026 Democracy Day celebrations, the administration remains firmly committed to delivering democratic dividends and fulfilling its constitutional responsibilities.

Akume conveyed that the Tinubu-led government acknowledges the prevailing challenges of insecurity, kidnappings, displacement, and economic hardship affecting several communities, stressing that the administration is not indifferent to the suffering of Nigerians. He added that the government is actively working with compassion and responsibility to address these concerns.

He reiterated that national security remains a top priority of the Federal Government, describing recent violent attacks and abductions as painful reminders of the work still ahead. He further assured that securing the release of all persons in captivity remains a national priority, while security agencies are being strengthened with the necessary resources to protect lives and safeguard territorial integrity.

The SGF firmly stated that the Nigerian government will never surrender to terror, banditry, or any form of criminal coercion, reaffirming the administration’s determination to restore peace and stability across the country.

He also used the occasion to congratulate Nigerians on 27 years of uninterrupted democratic governance since 1999, describing it as a testament to the resilience and sacrifices of citizens who fought for the return of democracy. He paid tribute to pro-democracy heroes of the June 12 struggle, noting their sacrifices should continue to inspire national unity and progress.

With political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections gradually intensifying, Akume urged Nigerians to reject violence, hate speech, and divisive rhetoric, warning against turning the democratic process into a battleground. He specifically cautioned young people against being used for political violence, misinformation, or thuggery, advising them to protect their future from manipulation.

He further called on religious leaders, traditional rulers, civil society groups, the media, and families to promote peace, tolerance, and responsible civic engagement as the country approaches another election cycle.

Akume reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to democratic governance, national unity, and peaceful coexistence, while commending the Armed Forces and security agencies for their sacrifices in defending the nation and sustaining democracy. He urged Nigerians to honour democratic heroes by building a safer, more accountable, and more prosperous country.
