No Bandit Attack On Minna Schools, Niger Govt Assures Residents, Urges Calm

According to Ireporter Online, the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Obed Nana, issued a statement on Thursday debunking the claims, which had sparked panic and led to temporary disruption in some schools.

The reports had suggested that bandits invaded schools in parts of the state, including Bosso, Kpakungu, Sabon-Wuse, and Lambata, allegedly abducting pupils, students, and teachers. The rumours triggered tension across Minna, prompting some schools to shut down and evacuate students and staff.

However, the state government clarified that after consultations with relevant security agencies, including the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education and the Niger State Police Command, no such incident occurred.

Authorities confirmed that security assessments and independent checks showed the claims were entirely false and intended to create unnecessary fear among residents.

The government described the reports as misleading and urged the public to disregard them, stressing that schools across the state remain safe, secure, and fully operational.

Nana reaffirmed the government’s commitment to protecting lives and property, particularly within school environments, noting that efforts are ongoing in collaboration with security agencies, school authorities, and community leaders to strengthen safety measures across educational institutions.

Parents and guardians were further advised to remain calm and avoid withdrawing their children from school based on unverified information, as adequate security arrangements have been put in place.

In a related development, the Niger State Police Command confirmed enhanced security deployment around schools, with Commissioner of Police Adamu Elleman directing divisional officers to intensify patrols and work closely with school administrators.

Police spokesperson Wasiu Abiodun also encouraged residents to report any suspicious activities promptly, assuring that the measures are aimed at preventing panic and strengthening public confidence in the state’s security system.
