House Of Reps Adjourn Plenary Session Till July

According to Ireporter Online, the adjournment was announced on Thursday by the Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abbas, who stated that the decision marked the end of the legislative year and would allow lawmakers time to review pending constitutional amendment proposals, which are expected to top the agenda upon resumption.

He further explained that the recess would enable members of the House to return to their various constituencies and engage directly with their constituents.

Before the adjournment, the House of Representatives also passed the State Police Bill following a decisive vote during plenary. The bill, which seeks to establish a state-level policing structure, is regarded as one of the most significant security reform proposals currently before the National Assembly.

Out of 290 lawmakers present, 289 reportedly voted in support of the bill, while four opposed it, following an earlier resolution that the vote would be conducted manually due to the sensitivity of the legislation.

In another development during the sitting, Speaker Tajudeen Abbas officially announced Hon. Fred Agbedi of Bayelsa State as the new Minority Leader of the 10th House of Representatives.

He also named Hon. Abdusamad Dasuki of Sokoto State as Deputy Minority Leader, while Hon. Mansur Manu Soro of Bauchi State was appointed Minority Chief Whip. Fred Agbedi represents the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Abdusamad Dasuki is of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), and Mansur Manu Soro belongs to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).

The leadership changes were announced shortly after plenary commenced, alongside other legislative business of the day.
