Tinubu Renames Kaduna Petroleum Institute In Honour Of Yar’Adua

According to Ireporter Online, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the renaming of the Institute of Petroleum Studies, Kaduna, which will now be known as the General Shehu Musa Yar’Adua University of Geological Sciences and Engineering Technology.

The announcement was made during the President’s national address to mark the 2026 Democracy Day celebration.

Tinubu stated that the decision was taken in honour of the late General Shehu Musa Yar’Adua, recognizing his significant contributions to Nigeria’s democratic evolution and efforts toward national unity.

In his remarks, the President described Yar’Adua as one of the key architects of modern democratic Nigeria, noting that his legacy of national partnership and sacrifice continues to inspire the country’s democratic journey.

He further explained that the renaming and revitalization of the already completed institute in Kaduna formed part of the Federal Government’s broader commitment to advancing education in the field of geological sciences and engineering technology.

The 2026 Democracy Day celebration also featured the conferment of national honours on 51 distinguished Nigerians, including pro-democracy activists, media veterans, and retired military officers who played notable roles in the struggle against military rule during the June 12 democratic movement.

Among those honoured were Chief Ayo Opadokun, Chief Ralph Obioha, and the late Dr. Arthur Nwankwo, alongside respected media figures such as Lade Bonuola, Femi Kusa, Sir Ademola Osinubi, and Dele Alake, as well as activists Dr. Joe Okei-Odumakin, Richard Akinnola, and Professor Sylvester Odion-Akhaine.
