Grammy award-winning Nigerian singer, Tems, has opened up on why she does not entertain romantic relationships within the Nigerian celebrity circle, stating that she keeps such boundaries firmly in place.

According to Ireporter Online, the “Essence” crooner made this known during a recent BET Awards weekend interview when she was asked whether she would consider making a move on Super Eagles goalkeeper, Maduka Okoye.

Responding to the question, Tems said she knows who the footballer is but does not have a personal relationship with him, adding that even if she did, she would not pursue anything romantic.

She further explained that relationships within the Nigerian entertainment industry remain strictly friendly for her, noting that she views her male colleagues as brothers and treats them like family, leaving no room for romance.

“[I] know who Maduka Okoye is but I don’t know him personally. I wish I did though. But shooting shots at him, we don’t do that over here. We [Nigerian celebrities] friend each other and we are family. I see my male colleagues as brothers,” she said.

In other news, Tems also revealed she was nervous during her performance at the official dedication ceremony of the Obama Presidential Centre in Chicago, United States. The singer shared the experience on X after the high-profile event, where she joined other international stars to mark the opening of the centre, and also reflected on mistakenly referring to the daughters of former U.S. President Barack Obama by the wrong names while speaking on stage.
