Many People Believe The Kutis Are Involved In Drugs – Made
According to Ireporter Online, Afrobeats singer Made Kuti has addressed long-standing public assumptions suggesting that members of the Kuti family are involved in drug use, describing the perception as a misconception.
The musician made the clarification on the sidelines of the United States Mission’s 250th Independence Day celebration held in Lagos on Wednesday at the residence of the U.S. Consul General in Ikoyi.
Made Kuti stated that contrary to popular belief, he does not smoke, adding that his father has also quit smoking. He explained that while the Kuti family is often associated with narcotics in public discourse, the reality, according to him, is different for most family members.
He further described himself as a hardworking, loyal and passionate individual, noting humorously that his loyalty is reflected in the fact that he is married.
Speaking on his current music preference, the singer revealed that he still listens to the works of his grandfather, Fela Kuti, whom he holds in high regard.
Made Kuti also used the opportunity to urge Nigerians to pay closer attention to climate change, stressing that beyond the nation’s economic and cultural challenges, environmental concerns remain equally important and require urgent attention.
He said: “A lot of people think I smoke, but I don’t, and even my dad has quit. So, there is a big misconception that the family are all into narcotics and drugs, but most of us are not. I am hardworking, loyal and passionate. I’m a married man. I think honestly we are very aware of the cultural issues we are facing and the economic issues we are facing, but something very important I will say is climate change.”
