Veteran Nollywood actor Emeka Ike has weighed in on growing concerns about the true purpose of modern relationships, insisting that love and marriage should not be blamed for rising cases of failed unions.

According to Ireporter Online, the actor made the remarks during an interview with BBC News Pidgin, where he argued that the real issue lies in individuals entering relationships with financial expectations rather than genuine emotional intentions.

He stated that relationships lose their meaning when one partner views the other solely as a source of financial support or personal gain, stressing that love is meant to be built on trust, honesty, and commitment.

Emeka Ike further maintained that many of the challenges seen in marriages today stem from hidden motives at the beginning of relationships, rather than the institution of marriage itself. He also criticized what he described as a growing trend among some women who choose partners based primarily on financial benefits.

According to him, using romance as a means of financial survival undermines the sacred nature of relationships, which he said should be rooted in mutual understanding, care, and respect. He urged people to focus on building meaningful connections rather than engaging in relationships for material advantage.
