According to Ireporter Online, the Chief Judge of Taraba State, Justice Joel Agya, has commended President Bola Tinubu for what he described as bold and progressive steps toward the establishment of state police in Nigeria.

Justice Agya made the remarks on Saturday night in Wukari during a dinner and fundraising event held for the Justice Joel Agya Bar Centre Project, organised by the Wukari Branch of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).

He stressed that the creation of state police had become necessary in response to the growing level of insecurity across the country. According to him, allowing indigenes to serve in local policing would enhance efficiency, as they are more familiar with their communities and terrain compared to officers deployed from other regions.

He noted that the proposed system would significantly strengthen law and order at the grassroots level, while emphasising the need for the institution to operate strictly within the confines of the law.

The Chief Judge also praised the NBA leadership for organising its Law Week and encouraged stakeholders and guests at the dinner to contribute generously toward the completion of the association’s secretariat complex.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Wukari Branch of the NBA, Mr. Hassan Saubana, appealed for increased judicial manpower in the southern part of Taraba State, noting that inadequate staffing remains a major challenge to effective justice delivery in the area.

Saubana expressed appreciation to the Chief Judge, other judges, and guests for their attendance, and assured that construction work on the Justice Joel Agya NBA Secretariat Complex would begin once sufficient funds are raised.

The event marked the conclusion of a two-day Law Week programme organised by the Wukari Branch of the Nigerian Bar Association, according to the News Agency of Nigeria.
