CAF Launches Bidding Process For 2028, 2032 And 2036 AFCON Tournaments

The football governing body announced the development through a statement released on its official platform, marking the beginning of the selection process for three future editions of its flagship competition.

CAF stated that every Member Association is eligible to participate in the bidding exercise, noting that the process is designed to identify countries capable of organizing world-class tournaments that meet the organisation’s technical, commercial and operational requirements.

The body further disclosed that the bidding framework was developed in collaboration with independent professional advisers, including PwC, as well as technical, financial and legal consultants, to guarantee a transparent, credible and competitive selection process.

The announcement comes as preparations continue for the 2027 AFCON, which will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda between June 19 and July 17, 2027. The tournament will mark the first time the competition is hosted across the three East African countries.

CAF also highlighted the remarkable growth of the Africa Cup of Nations in recent years, citing its increasing commercial value and expanding global audience across television and digital platforms.

The continental football body noted that AFCON remains Africa’s biggest sporting event and one of the most widely watched football competitions worldwide, attracting a cumulative global television audience of more than 3.2 billion viewers, in addition to over six billion digital views.
