I’ve Stopped Watching TV Because I’m Often Misquoted’ – Godswill Akpabio
According to Ireporter Online, Senate President Godswill Akpabio has stated that he no longer watches television because his comments are frequently misrepresented by the media.
Akpabio made this remark on Friday during the inauguration of access roads in Karsana, Abuja, where he also addressed public reactions to his earlier comments on infrastructure development under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
He explained that his recent statements had been distorted, insisting that his remarks were specifically focused on projects within the Federal Capital Territory. He said his experience with media misrepresentation had become recurring, adding that he prefers to avoid television coverage as a result.
Clarifying his position, Akpabio noted that his comments referred to the scale of ongoing infrastructure projects in the FCT under the current administration and the leadership of the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike. He highlighted the commissioning of multiple projects in the territory, describing them as unprecedented in recent times.
He further stated that discussions he engaged in during the event included assurances of additional projects slated for commissioning before the next election cycle, urging the public to avoid misinterpretation of his remarks.
Akpabio stressed that while his earlier comments centered on the FCT, the Tinubu administration was also executing major infrastructural projects across other parts of the country. He cited developments spanning from Badagry to Sokoto, including agricultural infrastructure such as dams intended to boost food production in the northern region.
He also referenced the coastal road project, noting that it fulfilled long-standing aspirations of communities in the Niger Delta, alongside the completion of long-abandoned national projects such as the headquarters of the Nigeria Revenue Service (formerly FIRS), which he described as a symbol of renewed governance commitment.
The Senate President added that satellite communities within the FCT were now experiencing the benefits of governance, pointing to improved road infrastructure in areas like Karsana as evidence of ongoing development.
