Key Details Emerge From Meeting Of 18 APC First-Term Governors
Eighteen first-term governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have strongly condemned the recent attacks on Nigerians living in South Africa while reaffirming their support for the economic reforms being implemented by President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
According to a communiqué issued at the end of the governors’ meeting in Kebbi State, the governors expressed concern over the growing cases of attacks and the abduction of schoolchildren across the country, urging authorities to take decisive action to safeguard the lives and property of all Nigerians.
The communiqué, presented by Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris, acknowledged the economic challenges currently facing Nigerians as a result of ongoing reforms but maintained that the policies should be allowed to achieve their intended objectives. The governors appealed to citizens to remain patient and continue supporting the administration, stressing that the sacrifices being made by Nigerians had not gone unnoticed.
They noted that despite the hardship associated with the reforms, abandoning the policies before they yield results would be counterproductive, expressing confidence that the long-term benefits would outweigh the present difficulties.
Speaking on behalf of the governors, Idris also stated that first-term APC governors seeking re-election would rely on their performance in office to earn the confidence of voters. He said they would showcase tangible achievements recorded in critical sectors, including agriculture, healthcare, security, and education, as they engage with the electorate.
The governors further reiterated their unwavering support for the Tinubu-led Federal Government, pledging continued collaboration in advancing policies aimed at national development while calling for stronger measures to ensure the safety and well-being of all Nigerians, both at home and abroad.
