4 Senior Police Officers Dismissed As PSC Sanctions 31 Others

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the dismissal of four senior police officers over various allegations of misconduct, while imposing disciplinary sanctions on 31 other officers following the outcome of its latest plenary meeting.

According to reports monitored by Ireporter Online, the decisions were reached during the commission’s plenary session held at its corporate headquarters in Abuja after reviewing disciplinary cases involving senior police personnel.

The commission stated that the four dismissed officers were found guilty of gross misconduct, unprofessional conduct, and acts considered unbecoming of public officers.

As part of the disciplinary measures, the PSC also approved the demotion of 10 senior officers. Three Superintendents of Police were reduced to the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police, while two Deputy Superintendents of Police were demoted to Assistant Superintendent of Police. In addition, five Assistant Superintendents of Police were downgraded to the rank of Inspector.

The commission further approved the compulsory retirement of two officers in the interest of the public service. Other sanctions imposed include severe reprimands for 10 officers, reprimands for five officers, warning letters issued to three officers, and a letter of advice given to one officer. Meanwhile, seven officers were cleared of all allegations after investigations found no evidence of wrongdoing.

Speaking on the development, the Chairman of the Police Service Commission, retired Deputy Inspector General of Police Hashimu Salihu Argungu, reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to enforcing discipline within the Nigeria Police Force.

Argungu stressed that the current leadership of the commission would not tolerate any form of misconduct by police personnel, adding that officers found guilty of violating professional standards would continue to face appropriate disciplinary measures. He also noted that while misconduct would be firmly addressed, the commission would equally sustain its policy of recognising and rewarding officers who distinguish themselves through exemplary service.
