BREAKING: ‘Top Boy’ Star Michael Ward Cleared Of R@pe And S3xual Assault Charges

According to Ireporter Online, the 28-year-old actor was acquitted on Friday after a 10-day trial at Snaresbrook Crown Court in east London, where a jury returned unanimous not-guilty verdicts on all five charges against him.

Ward was cleared of two counts of rape, two counts of assault by penetration and one count of sexual assault linked to an encounter with a woman in January 2023.

The actor, who had consistently denied any wrongdoing, became emotional as the verdicts were announced, bringing an end to a legal battle that had lasted for more than three years.

The case centred on allegations involving a woman Ward met at a New Year’s Day party in Ilford, east London, before they later travelled separately to an after-party in Stratford.

Prosecutors had alleged that Ward invited the woman into a vehicle, where the alleged offences took place. The complainant told the court that she had indicated she wanted to leave and explained that she delayed reporting the matter because she felt intimidated by the actor’s public profile.

However, Ward maintained throughout the investigation and trial that the encounter was consensual, insisting that there was mutual interest between both parties.

While giving evidence in court, the actor said he and the woman had been “friendly and flirty” during the evening and rejected claims that he had pressured or forced her into anything.

Ward’s defence team challenged the prosecution’s account of events and questioned aspects of the evidence presented during the trial, including forensic findings relating to the allegations.

The jury ultimately accepted the defence arguments and returned unanimous verdicts clearing the actor of all charges.

Ward’s Top Boy co-star, Jasmine Jobson, appeared as a defence witness during the trial and described him as a close friend, praising his character and personality.

Jobson told the court that the lengthy legal proceedings had significantly affected Ward’s career, claiming that the uncertainty surrounding the case had placed his acting ambitions on hold for several years.

Following the verdict, Ward’s legal representatives said the actor was relieved that the case had concluded and was looking forward to returning to his acting career.

The trial also experienced a brief disruption after an online content creator posted comments about evidence from the proceedings while the case was still ongoing. The court later ordered the removal of the posts and took measures to ensure the jury was not influenced.

Ward rose to fame after starring in the 2019 British crime drama film Blue Story before gaining international recognition for his portrayal of Jamie Tovell in Top Boy. His performance earned him the BAFTA Rising Star Award in 2020.

The Jamaican-born British actor has also featured in productions including Steve McQueen’s Small Axe, Empire of Light, The Book of Clarence and Eddington.

With the legal proceedings now concluded, Ward is expected to focus on rebuilding his acting career after years of uncertainty surrounding the case.
