According to Ireporter Online, Tinubu made the remarks during a remembrance prayer session held to mark the first anniversary of Buhari’s passing, where he highlighted the former president’s journey from military leadership to democratic governance as a significant chapter in Nigeria’s political history.

Represented at the ceremony by Vice President Kashim Shettima, President Tinubu said Buhari’s legacy extended beyond the offices he occupied, noting that his consistency, personal discipline and commitment to public service defined his years in leadership.

In a statement released by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications in the Office of the Vice President, Stanley Nkwocha, titled ‘President Tinubu: One Year After Passing, Buhari’s Life Still Speaks to Nigeria,’ the President described Buhari as a leader who dedicated himself fully to the country.

Tinubu said the late former president “gave everything he had to this country” and served with courage, conviction and patriotism without seeking personal rewards.

The President recalled their years of political partnership, describing Buhari as a committed participant in Nigeria’s journey toward national development and democratic progress.

According to Tinubu, Buhari’s transition from a military ruler to a civilian democrat and his defence of constitutional values made him a unique personality in Nigeria’s political landscape.

He noted that despite the challenges and criticisms often associated with holding public office, Buhari continued to enjoy the respect and trust of many Nigerians even after leaving power, which he attributed to years of discipline, integrity and consistency.

Tinubu stated that the confidence Nigerians placed in Buhari was not something that was automatically given but was earned through a lifetime of aligning his words with his actions.

The President called on Buhari’s associates, supporters and public officials to preserve his memory by embracing the values he represented, including honesty, simplicity and self-discipline.

He added that the most meaningful way to honour the late president would be for leaders to uphold the standards of service and personal conduct that defined Buhari’s public life.
