Afrobeats singer Adekunle Gold has revealed the emotional experience that inspired his 2019 song, “Simile,” saying the track was written during a difficult period following the death of his father.

According to Ireporter Online, the singer disclosed that he created the song while struggling with grief and uncertainty after losing his father, describing the period as one in which he felt emotionally lost and desperately needed something to hold on to.

Adekunle Gold explained that “Simile” emerged from his attempt to process the pain and emotions surrounding his loss while searching for strength to move forward.

He said the song was written from a deeply vulnerable place, at a time when he could hardly imagine what the future held for him.

The singer recently performed the song with an orchestra, an experience he said brought back memories of the person he was when he originally recorded it.

Reflecting on the performance, Adekunle Gold noted that his younger self could not have imagined that he would still be making music several years later or achieving some of the dreams that once appeared distant.

He said the experience reminded him of how much his life had changed since the song was created and how far he had come despite the challenges he faced.

Adekunle Gold further described “Simile” as a reminder that difficult seasons eventually pass and encouraged people going through challenging moments not to lose hope.

According to the singer, life can take unexpected turns, making it difficult for people to see better days while they are in the middle of their darkest experiences.

He urged listeners to allow the message of “Simile” to remind them that difficult moments are temporary and that there is always hope beyond periods of pain and uncertainty.

Released in 2019, “Simile” has remained one of Adekunle Gold’s notable songs, with its themes of love, grief, hope and resilience continuing to resonate with his listeners.
