18 Alleged Boko Haram Logistics Supporters Nabbed In Borno
Troops under Operation Hadin Kai have apprehended 18 individuals suspected of supplying logistics to Boko Haram insurgents in Borno State. The suspects were intercepted while en route to Gubio, with indications they intended to continue towards the Gudumbali axis, an area identified as a stronghold of the terrorist group.
According to Ireporter Online, the arrests were detailed in a daily operational update released on Wednesday, which revealed that the individuals were caught transporting goods believed to be destined for the insurgents. Preliminary findings further indicated that the suspects allegedly confessed to routinely procuring and delivering supplies to the group.
The report noted that the suspects attributed their actions to unemployment, highlighting underlying socio-economic challenges affecting communities in Maiduguri and surrounding areas. It added that this development aligns with recent remarks by the Chief of Defence Staff on the link between economic hardship and the continued operation of insurgent logistics networks.
Military authorities stressed that the arrests underscore the significant role played by civilian collaborators in sustaining terrorist activities, particularly in remote locations such as Gubio and Gudumbali. They also called for a more holistic approach to addressing insurgency, advocating strategies that combine sustained military operations with economic empowerment and job creation initiatives to tackle its root causes.
