2 Dead As OPC, OPCI Clash In Osun
Residents of Apomu, Ikire and Ikoyi in Irewole and Isokan local government areas of Osun state have been gripped with tension following the clash between the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) and Oodua Peoples Congress Initiatives (OPCI) in the three communities.
It was gathered that the clash had led to the death of one person in the OPC while one member of OPCI reportedly died during the clash.
It was learnt that traditional rulers in the areas have given OPC recognition over OPCI.
A source who pleaded anonymity said the crisis began when the OPCI declared their support for Sunday Adeyemo popularly called Sunday Igboho during his visit to the state recently.
It was gathered that the clash had started on Tuesday, leading to the closure of shops and business activities in the communities.
The Special Adviser on Security to Governor Gboyega Oyetola, Mrs Abiodun Ige, said peace has been returned to the communities.
She advised residents to continue with their work without fear, assuring that security operatives deployed to the areas would ensure the safety of residents in the communities.
The coordinator of OPC in the state, Prince Deji Aladesawe, confirmed the incident and the death of two persons.
