2023 Elections: Why I Won’t Work Against Ortom’s Senatorial Ambition – Ayu

Senator Iyorchia Ayu, National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has stated that he will not work against Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom’s senatorial ambitions.

In the 2023 elections, Ortom is the PDP candidate for the Benue North-West senatorial district.

Together with the other four governors who comprise the G5, Ortom has been unequivocal in his refusal to support the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, citing a need for fairness, equity, and justice.

Caught in the crossfire of an internal crisis sparked by Atiku’s victory in the PDP’s presidential primary in May 2022, Ayu has yet to resign in accordance with the G5’s insistence that the same region cannot produce both the party’s presidential candidate and national chairman.

The feud appeared to reach a climax last month with the Benue governor’s endorsement of Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi.

While briefing journalists at his Makurdi residence on Thursday, the PDP chairman stated that he would not work against Ortom “because he is a candidate of the party.”

He urged Nigerians to reflect on the eight years of escalating insecurity, poverty, and economic failures.

He believes that voting for Atiku can quickly change the country’s fortunes.

The PDP chairman urged voters to choose the country’s survival and said the PDP must come to its aid.
