2027: Malami Storms ADC, Picks Governorship Form In Kebbi

According to Ireporter Online, a former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, has officially obtained the governorship nomination form of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Kebbi State.

In a statement shared on Saturday through his social media platforms, Malami explained that his decision to join the race was driven by what he described as escalating insecurity, widespread poverty, declining education standards, a struggling healthcare system, and worsening economic conditions in the state.

He said he could no longer remain silent while residents continue to face deepening hardship, alleging that Kebbi State is grappling with severe governance and humanitarian challenges. He further cited troubling figures indicating that over 67 percent of children aged between six and 15 are currently out of school, while more than 88 percent of children are reportedly living in multidimensional poverty.

The former minister also expressed concern over the state of healthcare, noting that maternal mortality remains alarmingly high, particularly in rural areas where access to antenatal and essential medical services is limited. On insecurity, he said several communities continue to experience attacks from armed groups, leading to displacement of farmers and disruption of economic activities, as residents now live in fear.

Malami accused the current administration of failing to adequately respond to the growing challenges, arguing that governance priorities have not reflected the urgent needs of the people. He described the situation as a “state of emergency on misgovernance,” pledging that if elected in 2027, his administration would prioritize security, education reform, and improved healthcare delivery.

He added that his ambition is anchored on service, accountability, and sustainable development, insisting that the era of ineffective leadership must come to an end. Malami also called on residents of Kebbi State to unite in what he described as a collective effort to rebuild the state into a safer and more prosperous society, declaring that there would be “no retreat and no surrender” in the pursuit of that goal.
