2027: Nasarawa Governor Abdullahi Sule Reveals Chosen Successor

The Governor of Nasarawa State, Abdullahi Sule, has identified Senator Aliyu Wadada as his preferred successor ahead of the 2027 governorship election under the All Progressives Congress, according to a report by Ireporter Online. The governor made the disclosure during a meeting with political appointees at the Government House in Lafia, indicating the early shaping of political alliances as the succession race gradually gains traction.

Senator Wadada, who currently represents Nasarawa West in the National Assembly, recently joined the ruling party after defecting from the Social Democratic Party, a move widely interpreted as a strategic step toward contesting the governorship position.

Speaking further at the 59th inaugural lecture of Nasarawa State University, the governor criticised public office holders who portray routine government duties such as salary payments and infrastructure development as notable achievements. He maintained that such responsibilities are fundamental obligations of leadership and should not be framed as extraordinary accomplishments.

Sule emphasised that effective governance should be measured by impactful and innovative initiatives that directly improve the lives of citizens. He urged leaders to go beyond conventional approaches and focus on delivering meaningful change that resonates with the people.

Highlighting practical examples from his administration, the governor recounted how repeated fire incidents in a local market had led to a cycle of financial assistance to affected traders. He explained that his government broke the pattern by constructing a modern market facility, which has since eliminated the recurring disasters.

He also pointed to intervention projects in Auta, near Keffi, where persistent flooding had disrupted livelihoods. According to him, improved internally generated revenue enabled the construction of a bridge that has significantly mitigated the problem.

In separate remarks, the President of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, Ike Neliaku, praised the governor’s infrastructural strides across key areas of the state. Meanwhile, the institute’s Vice President, Emmanuel Dandaura, cautioned that a disconnect between public communication and actual performance could erode public trust, stressing the importance of accountability and consistent stakeholder engagement.
