2027 Sh*cker: PDP Zones Presidential Ticket To South — Wike Reveals

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has disclosed that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has zoned its presidential ticket to the South ahead of the 2027 general election.

According to Ireporter Online, Wike made this known while speaking to journalists on Friday night following an inspection of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium Velodrome in Abuja, the venue slated for the party’s national convention scheduled for March 29 and 30.

He explained that strategic positions within the party have already been distributed across regions to promote balance, noting that the presidency has been zoned to the South, while the national chairmanship has been allocated to the North. Wike emphasized that the consensus arrangement is expected to simplify the convention process and foster unity within the party.

The minister further stated that the PDP is presenting what he described as an unprecedented level of cohesion, distancing the current arrangement from previous “unity lists” often associated with internal divisions. He stressed that party stakeholders are aligned on a common direction, adding that preparations for the convention are nearing completion.

Providing an update on logistics, Wike disclosed that the party is about 95 percent ready for the exercise, with seating arrangements finalized for all states and the VIP section fully prepared. He added that attendance is expected to be limited to approximately 2,500 delegates.

He reiterated that the convention would proceed as planned, despite ongoing reconciliation efforts with aggrieved members, noting that internal dispute resolution is a continuous process. Wike also downplayed concerns over a pending Supreme Court appeal filed by a faction led by Tanimu Turaki, insisting it would not disrupt the scheduled gathering.

Expressing optimism about the party’s prospects, Wike said the PDP is poised to stage a strong comeback in 2027, adding that its performance would surprise many Nigerians. He maintained that the party remains inclusive and open to accommodating differing interests, stressing that disagreements are inevitable in a large political organization but can be managed through dialogue and compromise.
