27 Rivers Assembly Lawmakers Dump PDP For APC

This development was confirmed by Enemi George, a member of the Assembly, who mentioned that the decision was made during their sitting on Monday morning.
The defection is seen as a significant move in the ongoing political drama within the state.

The leadership struggle for the position of Speaker, particularly between Martin Amaewhule and Edison Ehie, has intensified the political tension. Amaewhule is perceived to be aligned with ex-governor Nyesom Wike, while Ehie is reportedly in the camp of Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
The Assembly, led by Amaewhule, had previously served an impeachment notice on Governor Fubara and removed Ehie as the House leader in October. However, in response, members loyal to Governor Fubara swiftly impeached Amaewhule and installed Ehie as the new Speaker.
The political turmoil in the 32-member Assembly has roots in the longstanding rift between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Wike, who currently serves as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Despite recent public appearances suggesting a resolution of differences, the defection of 27 lawmakers from the PDP to the APC adds another layer of complexity to the political landscape in Rivers State.
