Embarking on her higher education path with an associate’s degree, Tillman steadily progressed to attain bachelor’s and master’s degrees before successfully defending her doctoral dissertation in December 2023. Associate professor Leslie Manson hailed Tillman’s achievement as an inspiration, emphasizing its rarity and uniqueness.

Fondly referred to as “Dorothy Jeanius” by her loved ones, Tillman’s academic journey defied convention from the outset. While most peers navigated middle school, she delved into college coursework, majoring in psychology and securing her associate’s degree by 2016. Her pursuit of knowledge led her to New York’s Excelsior College for a bachelor’s in humanities and then to Unity College in Maine for a master’s of science, before ultimately joining Arizona State’s Behavioral Health Management Program in 2021.

Undeterred by the challenges posed by remote and online learning, Tillman persevered, culminating her academic voyage with a poignant address to her fellow graduates at the Arizona State commencement. Reflecting on her remarkable achievements, Tillman attributes her success to the unwavering support of her grandmother and the guidance of her mother.

In recounting her educational journey, Tillman expressed gratitude for her upbringing, noting that what may have seemed extraordinary to others felt entirely natural to her. Now 18 years old, Tillman’s accomplishments serve as a beacon of inspiration, underscoring the transformative power of determination and dedication in the pursuit of academic excellence.
