The Imams, speaking after an emergency meeting on Wednesday, May 15, accused Minister Ohanenye of threatening the Speaker by petitioning the Inspector General of Police and initiating legal action against him. They have demanded an apology from the Minister within seven days, warning of further legal action if not received.

According to the Islamic clerics, Minister Ohanenye’s actions are deemed unfit for her position, with accusations of blackmail being levied against her for suggesting that the initiative could lead to underage girls being forced into marriage. This call for her dismissal highlights the tensions surrounding the proposed orphan wedding sponsorship and the broader issues of child welfare and religious beliefs within the state.
