Accord Breaks Silence On PDP Step-Down Rumours In Ekiti Gov Race

The Ekiti State chapter of the Accord Party has firmly denied reports alleging that its governorship candidate, Opeyemi Falegan, has withdrawn from Saturday’s governorship election to support the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Wole Oluyede.

According to Ireporter Online, the party described the speculation as misleading and urged residents and supporters to disregard the claims, insisting that its candidate remains fully committed to the race.

Speaking on Thursday, the state chairman of the Accord Party, Adeniji Philip, maintained that Falegan had neither stepped down nor entered into any agreement to back another candidate. He emphasized that the governorship hopeful is focused on the election and prepared to contest until the end.

Philip dismissed the circulating reports as baseless, stressing that the party remains united behind its candidate and has not altered its political position ahead of the poll.

The clarification came after a viral Facebook video by Isaac Fayose, younger brother of former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, claimed that Falegan had abandoned his ambition in favour of the PDP candidate.

Meanwhile, the Oluyede Campaign Organisation acknowledged receiving support from some members and leaders of the Accord Party but clarified that the party’s governorship candidate had not officially endorsed the PDP flagbearer.

Campaign spokesperson Idowu Adelusi disclosed that Accord’s deputy governorship candidate, Bayo Omoniyi, alongside several party leaders, publicly declared support for Oluyede during a visit to the PDP candidate’s residence in Ikere-Ekiti.

Adelusi noted that while Falegan had not formally aligned with the PDP, the backing from his running mate and other Accord leaders represented a significant boost for the party’s campaign ahead of Saturday’s election.

He expressed confidence that the growing endorsements from members of other political parties would strengthen the PDP’s chances at the governorship poll, adding that support had also come from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), the National Democratic Congress (NDC), and the Young Progressives Party (YPP).
