Anthony Joshua Breaks Silence On Friends’ Fatal Lagos Crash: “Life Is Short

According to Ireporter Online, former world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua has opened up about the tragic deaths of two of his close friends, Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele, in a fatal car accident on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.

Joshua shared his account in a conversation with former UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman, in a video posted on Usman’s YouTube channel. The discussion took place while Joshua was still receiving treatment for injuries sustained in the crash, which occurred on December 29, 2025, and just before an MMA event in Lagos on December 30.

The British-Nigerian boxer survived the accident and was rescued from the wreckage before being taken to Duchess International Hospital, where he received medical care. In the video, Joshua was shown with bandages around his head and torso as he spoke candidly about the incident.

Joshua revealed that one of the victims had been seated in front while the other was behind him on the right side of the vehicle. “One was in the front and one was behind him, on the right side. They both passed away. It still hasn’t sunk in. It still hasn’t hit me yet,” he said.

Usman expressed sympathy for the tragedy, noting the global concern it had sparked. Reflecting on the fragility of life, Joshua said, “Life is short, man. Life is short. And now look, I get to speak with you for the first time.” Usman responded, emphasizing life’s unpredictability and expressing gratitude for Joshua’s survival.

Following his discharge, Joshua returned to the United Kingdom to continue his recovery. He had earlier addressed the tragedy on social media, sharing a photograph with the families of the deceased and captioning it, “My Brother’s Keeper.”
