According to Ireporter Online, the Bauchi State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has distanced itself from ongoing speculation surrounding an alleged plan by Governor Bala Mohammed to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling party.

Reports indicate that rumours have been circulating online suggesting that the governor may be considering a political switch. However, the Bauchi APC Chairman, Muhammad Hassan Tilde, clarified in a recent interview that the party is not in a position to confirm or comment on such claims, stressing that any defection process is initiated at the grassroots level rather than by the state leadership.

Tilde noted that questions regarding a potential defection should be directed at the individual involved, adding that the party cannot speak on behalf of anyone contemplating such a move. He further emphasized that the process of joining a political party begins from the ward level before progressing through other party structures.

Echoing similar sentiments, the APC Chairman of Yuli Ward in Alkaleri Local Government Area, Nuhu Muhammad, stated that there has been no official communication regarding any intention by the governor to join the party. He explained that should the governor formally express interest, the ward leadership would first escalate the matter to the local government level before it is forwarded to the state leadership for necessary action.

Nuhu added that, like many others, party members have only been hearing unverified reports but maintained that the ward remains open to receiving the governor if he eventually decides to align with the APC.
