Arewa Elders Urge Tinubu to Reject Bandit Leader Bello Turji’s Reconciliation Offer
Light of recent video footage that allegedly depicts bandit leader Bello Turji seeking reconciliation with the government, the Arewa Elders Progressive Group has urged President Bola Tinubu to dismiss these overtures. The group emphasizes that the video should not be seen as a genuine gesture but rather as a strategic move by Turji.
According to the Arewa Elders, Turji’s appeal for peace comes after a series of violent attacks and kidnappings that have plagued northern Nigeria. The group asserts that such attempts at reconciliation are often insincere and could be a tactic to gain leverage or evade justice.
The elders argue that while peace and reconciliation are crucial, they must be approached with caution and not be used as a ploy by criminal elements. They recommend that the government continue its focus on security and justice rather than negotiating with individuals who have caused significant harm to communities.
President Tinubu has yet to respond to the advice from the Arewa Elders Progressive Group. The situation remains tense as the government grapples with the ongoing challenge of addressing banditry and ensuring the safety of its citizens.
This latest development highlights the ongoing struggle between the Nigerian government and bandit groups, with significant implications for national security and public trust.
