AVIDUSA Urges Tinubu to Free Nnamdi Kanu and Restore 1960/63 Autonomy Amidst Rising Tensions”

AVIDUSA Demands Nnamdi Kanu’s Release and Regional Autonomy Restoration
In a bold move, the United States Military Veterans of Igbo Descent (AVIDUSA) has called on President Bola Tinubu to release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). This call comes alongside a demand for the restoration of Nigeria’s regional autonomy as outlined in the 1960/63 constitutional framework.
AVIDUSA, which consists of former U.S. military personnel of Igbo heritage, asserts that the current political and security situation in Nigeria is perilous and could lead to severe instability. They advocate for a return to the 1960/63 regional autonomy model, believing it would provide a more equitable governance framework and address persistent grievances.
Chief Dr. Sylvester Onyia, the President of AVIDUSA, and Secretary Dr. Godson Obiagwu emphasized that the resolution of Nigeria’s socio-economic and security issues hinges on this constitutional restoration. The statement referenced a 2017 meeting where Kanu’s demands, including upgrading Enugu to a grade one international airport, were discussed.
