Battle For Ovia: Why Running Against Dennis Idahosa Would Be Suicidal As INEC Announces Party Candidates
What is a suicide mission?
A suicide mission is a task which is so dangerous for the people involved that they are not expected to survive. In local parlance when we say suicide it’s more like a one-way TICKET, a journey of no return.
The new electoral act has certainly presented itself as the most significant revelation of the 2023 general elections, the mighty have fallen, are you aware that so many lawmakers in the NASS are not even returning to Abuja?
Many of these federal lawmakers were ousted due to greed, while others were ousted due to political differences with their governors or godfathers, as the case may be, and these are only party primaries.
Over 30 seats in the Senate alone will not be mentioned on the ballots, with a significantly larger number in the House of Representatives. So getting a party ticket currently isn’t easy.
The INEC announced the list of candidates for the Senate and House of Representatives, but the PDP candidates in Edo State were not included due to the contentious court proceedings involving the two factional primaries held.
As things are, the PDP in Edo State is in limbo, but the battle over who represents Ovia Federal Constituency is a ONE-WAY TICKET, regardless of whose side of the split it lands on.
It is a one-way ticket for the incumbent lawmaker representing the constituency in the National Assembly, Hon Dennis Idahosa, because no one can currently defeat him in the general elections; even if trending Peter Obi and Musa Kwankwanso ran against him for Ovia Federal Constituency, they would not be able to defeat the youthful Federal Lawmaker.
Then, for the other political parties, it is a one-way TICKET as well, because it is a jolly fine journey into the LAGOON, in this case the popular OVIA River, in local parlance we would say “The Ticket Don Cut”
Dennis Idahosa’s first term in office as a federal lawmaker marked a new beginning that brought about a significant change in all facets of peoples’ everyday lives. Dennis Idahosa built schools at an unprecedented rate and renovated schools to include staff offices.
His infrastructure development in the health sector can be felt and seen throughout Ovia Federal constituency, youth empowerment schemes that have left residents speechless, the construction of Skills Acquisitions centers everywhere, incredible well-constructed solar motorized borehole schemes, provision of agricultural produce to farmers, scholarships, construction of Arden bridge, and so many other laudable initiatives that can only be executed by State or Federal Governments.
Dennis is at the forefront of advocating for the people in the green chambers; his efforts are indelible, and he has elevated Ovia to the forefront of national debate.
The lesson to be gained from Dennis Idahosa’s leadership is that leaving a lasting legacy is critical in public service.
